What’s On Board

October 19th, 2010

I would like to thank everyone who helped us the past few weeks in re-supplying and donating more tools and equipment for the trailer.  The donations have been overwhelming and very much appreciated.  GOD has blessed our Ministry and has given us the ability to help those in need in our communities.

To give you an overview, here is a list of some of the basic items we have on board, without your support we would not be where we are today.

Safety Items:  Gloves, Masks, Safety Vests, flashlights, Ear and Eye Protection

Small Hand Tools:  Hammers, Wrenches, Sledge Hammer, Electrical Tools, Plumbing Tools, Screwdrivers and Saws.

Power Equipment:  2″ Trash Pump, Drills, Circular Saw, Mitre Saw, Reciprocating Saw, and assorted cordless power tools.

Other equipment:  Shovels, Rakes, Post Hole Diggers, Bow Saws, 6′ Ladder, 5′ Step Ladder,

Basic Supplies:  Trash Bags, Painting Supplies, Cleaning Supplies, Electrical Supplies, Plumbing Supplies, Garden Hose, Tarps, Assorted Plastic PVC Pipe and Fittings, and Cooper Pipe.

We also have available power generators that are not kept on board.

During the winter months we will be looking over what other items we could use on board and to prepare us for next year.

Again, thanks to everyone who has supported us during this past year.

In His Service,

Tom

Winter Safety

Winter Storm Fire Safety

Here we are mid-October enjoying the nice mild temps, the fall colors, and relaxing around a nice warm fire.   Before you know it, WINTER is HERE!!!.   How many times have you thought about preparing for a winter storm?   Some of us protect ourselves from severe weather during the summer, such as buying a back up generator or a watch dog battery powered sump pump.   But how many of us actually prepare for a winter storm?

Do you have the necessary supplies during the winter?   Preparing for a serve storm in the summer in some aspects is different in preparing for a winter storm.   Have you thought about what you would need?   What if the power goes out?   What do you do if you have no heat?

I put a link above with some great information on Winter Storm and Fire Safety, plus FEMA has some great information on Winter Storm Tips.

I will be writing more about Winter Safety Tips during the last remaining weeks in October to help you better prepare yourself during a winter storm.

God Bless

Village of Carol Stream Disaster Committee Meeting

October 11th, 2010

On Thursday October 7, 2010 the Village of Carol Stream held their second disaster committee meeting.   At this meeting committee members developed a preliminary list of resident needs during a disaster.

What do residents need during the first 24 hours, between the 25th hour and 2 weeks, and from 2-4 weeks.

These were round table discussions, I sat in on 25th hour to 2 weeks.    In talking to some other members of the entire committee, our Ministry will probably be called upon the first 24 hours.   After listening, discussing and taking some notes, I am going to be in the process of assessing our tools and supplies that we keep on board and have some ideas of what we can offer residents of a disaster, not only tools and equipment we have, but perhaps other things as well.

Volunteer Today Sign Up For M.I.M. Text Alerts

Volunteerism is a great gift from GOD whether you are on the receiving end or the giving end.   That is what we need the most, people who willing to give their time to help out a neighbor, church family member, or stranger.  These are the people who we serve.   It is easy to join and costs you nothing but pure satisfaction when you help out someone in need.

Some of you may be skeptic, but we could use the help of every single person from our church and communities.  Just because you may not know how to hammer a nail or fix a pipe, does not mean you are not wanted.  We can use you in many ways.   Being with the people we are helping, talking to them, easing their burden…..Helping our own volunteers by providing food and water whenever needed or perhaps providing a meal to the people we are helping.   Going to the store for us for supplies….this is stuff that anyone can do.  The types of volunteerism is endless and remember we are not asking you to volunteer all the time.  We understand everyone has busy lives, but sometimes sacrificing for others is huge.   When was the last time someone helped you, how did you feel?   Think of the people who we could help and how it will make them feel.

Yes we need volunteers, however sometimes it is difficult to reach people.

Ministries In Motion Team is implementing a Text Message Call Out for volunteers for when Ministries In Motion is needed.

Basically if Ministries In Motion is requested I will be sending a text message to volunteers.  There will be two types of text messages.  In the subject line it will state either Volunteers Needed or Volunteer Alert.

Volunteers Needed will mean that Ministries In Motion team has been requested to help a family or individual in need.  These are projects that will be done on Saturdays.   There will be a text explanation on what is needed, the date and time.

Volunteer Alert will mean that Ministries In Motion team has been requested for disaster relief.  This is important because in most cases we will need as many volunteers as we can get.  However, many times it will be unknown what needs to be done.   In any case, more text messages would follow to explain what is needed and where to meet.   Also basically this message would be putting you on alert for the potential of asking for your help.

Now to respond to these messages is simple….just text back with Available or Not Available, no other explanation is needed.  (Please do not text while driving)

How do you get these messages?   Simply email your cell phone number and become a volunteer on the Ministries In Motion team.   It is that EASY!!

Again we understand that not everyone will be available for everything, but whenever you can help will be B.I.G. HUGE!!!

So join our team today, email me at tsarlitto@gmail.com your name and cell phone number and you will be put on the call list.

Help Us Keep The Trailer Stocked

September 9th, 2010

With many of us who have garages, there are probably alot of items that you have in there that you may never use, that perhaps we can use on the trailer.   I know, I recently looked in my own garage and cleaned out a few things and put them on the trailer.  Does it make a difference absolutely, every little bit helps us to help those in need.

What are we looking for, below is a small list of items that the trailer could use.  If you are planning on a garage cleaning for the fall, please keep us in mind of some of the items we are looking for.   If not, I am asking that perhaps you take a peek and see what you may have that the trailer could use.

One thing to keep in mind we are not asking for money or asking you to go out and buy the items we need, we are only seeking items that you will no longer use that are in your garage.

List:

Nails – Any size
Screws – Wood or Sheet Metal – Any Size
Nuts and Bolts – Any Size
2×4’s – 6′ – 8′ in size
1×2’s – 6′-8′ in size
Plastic Pipe – 1 1/2″ or 2″ in diameter
Plastic Pipe Fittings – same sizes as above
Cooper Pipe and fittings – any diameter size
Solder or Flux
Old Sump Pumps or Utility Pumps (That work)
Extension Cords 25′ or longer
Clamp Lights
Duct Tape
Electrical Tape

If you think of anything else, please let me know what you may have and I will let you know if we can use it.

Also, we are looking for a 10amp or better battery charger, if you have one you are not going to use anymore, please let me know, we can use it on the trailer.

Also ladies, if you have any old towels that you may want to get rid of we could use those as well, dish towels, bath towels or beach towels.

If you have items you can donate, please email me at tsarlitto@gmail.com.

Again, any of these things will help keep the trailer stocked with supplies.

I appreciate any and all the help that you can give.

GOD BLESS!!!

Tom
