Just a thought…

God’s Word is truth!  God’s Word is sure.  God’s Word answers questions.  God’s Word is THE answer to ALL your needs!  I Corinthians 5 is a great chapter as are all the chapters in God’s Word!  It is a pointed chapter!  Paul does not skirt around in this chapter.  The part that really stood out to me is the part about pride.  In verses 6-8 is where Paul speaks so of pride…!  He uses the example of “leaven”.  Leaven is never a symbol of the gospel; it is always a principle of evil and it represents evil in this instance.  What does leaven (yeast) do to bread?  When you put it into the dough and set it in a warm place, it spreads through the bread and the bread begins to puff up or rise.  When it gets to a certain height, the bread is put into a hot oven.  Why?  To stop the leavening process.  If it didn’t go into the oven, the leavening process would go on and rise higher until the whole loaf would be corrupt.  This is what happens to evil in the church if it is not dealt with.  The whole thing will blow up and destroy the effectiveness of the church.  A little leaven (yeast) will leaven the whole lump…so it MUST be purged out.  Paul also talks about how the believer needs to be sincere (vs 8).  The world today needs to see sincerity and truth among believers.  The Word of God teaches that a little infection in the church must be dealt with or else it is going to corrupt and wreck the church.  The church will lose its power.  An impure church is not a powerful church.  This is true for an individual also.  Today, we need a great deal of courage – no compromise in the church to point out these things and say, this is sin!  I think that when this is done, the believer who is in sin, will confess like the man in Corinth.
