Nehemiah 1
A Leader Cares and Prepares with Prayers
vs 1-3   Nehemiah’s inquiry and the bad report
4-7   Mourning, prayer, and confessing the sins of Israel
8-10 Asking God to remember & act upon His Word
11    Specific prayer for favor before the king
This man, Nehemiah, is so very impressive to me.  Why?
1.  Because he cared for what God cared for.  When Nehemiah’s brother came to Persia from Judah,
Nehemiah asked
his brother how it was going in Judah.
2.  There was a bad report, but Nehemiah didn’t just say “oh well, there’s nothing I can do”.  Rather, he got on his face before God and prayed.
3.  He was a man of action.  He was preparing, in prayer, to take action. In verse 11, we see that Nehemiah was preparing to make request to the king. He sought favor so that he could make a difference.
May we pray that we would be like this man and never give up.  It is hard to care about the things of God because there is so much adversity in this world toward God and His work. But faith overcomes this world.  Jesus said that we
should always pray and never give up (Luke 18:1).
