Nehemiah 12

Joy that can be Heard

Key Verse = 43 “and on that day they offered great sacrifices and rejoiced because God had given them great joy, even the women and children rejoiced, so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard from afar.”

Outline:

1-26     Priests & Levites who came up to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel

27-30   Preparation for Dedication of the Wall

31-43   The Dedication begins

44-47   Gathering, guarding, & distributing the offerings

Meaning:

“The 2 choirs took their stand in the House of God” (vs 40)

“The joy of Jerusalem was heard from far away!” (vs 43)

There were 2 choirs that marched along the top of the wall.  They both started in the same location and proceeded to walk in opposite directions until they both met across from the Temple.  They then proceeded to take their stand in the House of God (Temple).  At this time, I believe that the enemies (Sanballot & Tobiah) were officially defeated!!!

Application:

I want Joy to be seen and “heard” from my life so that others may be persuaded to turn to Christ.  So, let us be quick to offer praise wherever we are, so that joy will flow from our lives.  And our enemies will be defeated!!
